How to Access Webmail (Roundcube) Print

  • 0

What webmail is

Webmail lets you read and send your email from any web browser, on any device, with nothing to install and no server settings to configure. We use Roundcube as our webmail application, so if you have seen that name on the login screen, you are in the right place. Webmail works on the live server copy of your mailbox, which also makes it the most reliable place to check whether a problem lies with the mailbox itself or with a mail program on your device.

How to log in

  1. In your browser, go to yourdomain.tld/webmail, replacing yourdomain.tld with your own domain name.
  2. Enter your full email address as the username, for example name@yourdomain.tld. The part before the @ on its own will not work.
  3. Enter your mailbox password. This is the password for the email account itself, it is not your cPanel password and not your client area password.
  4. Click Log in, and Roundcube opens on your Inbox.

You can also reach webmail without typing any password at all, by logging in to your client area and using the webmail login button on your hosting service's page, handy whenever a mailbox password is not to hand.

Note that the address style webmail.yourdomain.tld does not work on our servers, always use the yourdomain.tld/webmail form.

If you can't log in

  • "Login failed" or invalid credentials: confirm you are using the full email address and the mailbox password. If the password is lost, it can be reset from cPanel under Email Accounts, or open a support ticket and we will reset it for you, see our article on compromised email accounts for how our password resets work.
  • An error saying the account is over quota: the mailbox is full, and webmail may refuse to load or to send until space is freed. The fix is clearing space, emptying Trash and Spam and deleting the largest messages, as walked through step by step in our article on full mailboxes, or upgrading to a package with more space if the mailbox genuinely needs to hold that much, open a support ticket and we will advise on the options.
  • The page won't load at all: check whether your website at yourdomain.tld loads. If neither loads, your connection to the server may be blocked, see our article on website access issues, the same IP bans that block websites block webmail too.

What you can do in Roundcube

  • Everything day-to-day: read, reply, forward, attach files, search your mail, and manage folders.
  • Contacts: Roundcube keeps its own address book, and addresses you mail are remembered for auto-complete.
  • Signatures and identities: under Settings, Identities, you can set your display name and an email signature.
  • Filters: under Settings, Filters, you can sort incoming mail into folders automatically, and these filters run on the server, so they apply no matter which device or program you use.
  • Password changes: covered in its own article on changing your mailbox password from webmail.

Good to know

Anything you do in webmail happens on the server copy of your mailbox. If your devices use IMAP, as our setup guides recommend, changes made in webmail appear on your phone and computer automatically, and vice versa. If webmail shows something different from what your mail program shows, that mismatch has specific causes, covered in our article on why webmail and your mail program disagree.
