Log in first. Always.
The single most useful habit when adding anything to your account: log in to your client portal before you start the order. A service ordered while logged in attaches to your existing profile automatically, which keeps everything in one place, on one set of invoices, under one login.
Order without logging in and the system will ask you to either sign in or create a new account. Choosing to create a new one gives you a second, entirely separate billing profile, which is rarely what anyone actually wants. You will also hit a practical wall: every profile needs a unique primary email address, so you cannot create a second profile using the address already on your first.
If it happens by accident, it is fixable. Tell us through a support ticket and we can move the services onto the profile you meant to use, it simply takes a bit of work on our side, and it is easier to avoid than to undo.
The process is the same as your first order
Nothing changes because you are an existing client. You order, you pay, our billing staff review and accept the order manually, and then the service is provisioned. Orders placed overnight are handled the next morning, with our staff aiming to be finished by 11am. The full detail is in our article on what happens after you place your order.
One convenience worth knowing: if you have credit sitting on your account, it is applied to the new invoice automatically, and you may find the order settles itself without any payment at all. Our article on viewing and understanding your invoices explains how credit works.
Every domain needs its own plan
This surprises clients coming from hosts that allow add-on domains, so it is worth stating plainly: we do not host multiple domains inside one plan. A second website means a second hosting plan, and a domain you simply want to hold means a parking plan, free or with redirect, as covered in our article on domain parking.
Subdomains are a different matter and are included with your existing plan, so shop.yourdomain.tld or blog.yourdomain.tld need nothing new ordered, with our higher tiers offering unmetered subdomains.
Adding versus upgrading
Two situations that look similar and are handled completely differently:
- A new domain or website is a new order, exactly as described here.
- More space, bandwidth, or features for a domain you already host is not a new order at all, it is an upgrade, done through the Upgrade/Downgrade action on the existing service. Our article on upgrading or downgrading your hosting plan covers it, including the pro-rata billing.
Ordering a second plan when you meant to upgrade the first leaves you paying for two services and using one, so if you are unsure which you need, ask us before ordering rather than after.
Renewal dates on new services
A new service gets its own renewal date, set by the day you signed up for it, which means a client with several services can end up with several renewal dates through the year. That is normal, and everything is invoiced in advance on its own cycle, as explained in our article on how our billing works.
If you would rather bring your dates together, two things to know:
- Domain dates cannot be moved, ever. They belong to the registry, not to us.
- Hosting dates can be adjusted, but only by us and only after the fact. It is not something the order process can do, so place the order normally, then open a ticket asking us to align the date.
Because domain dates are fixed, aligning hosting to the domain is the practical approach rather than the reverse.
Good to know
Keeping everything on one profile is worth more than it sounds. One login, one set of invoices, one place where every renewal date is visible, and one account whose contact details you keep current, which our article on updating your account and contact details explains is the foundation everything else rests on. Two half-forgotten profiles is how a domain quietly lapses because its renewal notice went to a login nobody uses anymore.
